GPCA to Recognize Young Talent in Agri-Sustainability at 3rd Innovation Competition
The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) is set to celebrate the innovative ideas and talents of GCC university students in the field of agri-nutrient sustainability through the 3rd GPCA Innovation Competition. This competition, part of the 14th GPCA Agri-Nutrients Conference, will take place from 10-12 September 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
For the first time, the competition will exclusively focus on rewarding projects that contribute to a food-secure and climate-resilient future. It invites undergraduate and postgraduate students from universities, vocational, and research institutes across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman to participate. The deadline for entries is 31 July 2024, with shortlisted candidates to be announced on 15 August 2024.
Participants are required to present innovative solutions to challenges in areas such as Circular Economy in Agriculture, Soil Health, Sustainable Resource Management, and Innovation and Emission Reduction in Agri-Nutrients Production. The competition is categorized into undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with winners announced during the conference on 11 September.
Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Sadoun, Secretary General of GPCA, emphasized the importance of the competition, stating, "This competition offers a unique platform for young students from the GCC to showcase their research in agri-sustainability. As the chemical industry strives to meet the challenges of feeding a growing global population while reducing emissions and protecting our planet, the contributions of young innovators are crucial."
He added, "Participants have the opportunity to enhance the reputation of their educational institutions, gain recognition from industry leaders, and potentially impact the future of our planet. We encourage the region’s youth to take part and drive meaningful change."
