GMG Launches 'GMG Cares' CSR Program in Partnership with Dubai's Community Development Authority
GMG, a global well-being company with leading brands in sports, everyday goods, health and beauty, properties, and logistics, has officially launched its corporate social responsibility initiative, 'GMG Cares'. This program marks a significant step in GMG's commitment to a sustainable and harmonious future, focusing on the well-being of individuals and communities.
The 'GMG Cares' program is structured around three key pillars: Planet, Community, and People, reinforcing GMG's dedication to positively impacting the environment, society, and governance. It aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UAE's sustainability objectives.
Mohammad A Baker, Deputy Chairman and CEO of GMG, announced, "We are delighted to launch 'GMG Cares', a comprehensive CSR program designed to drive sustainable initiatives within our communities. This initiative is part of our 'Make a Difference' sustainability strategy framework introduced in 2022, reflecting our people-first approach."
Baker emphasized GMG's commitment to making a positive impact in the communities it serves, highlighting partnerships with public and private organizations that align with the UAE’s Sustainability Agenda.
Razan Akrouk, Chief People Officer at GMG, explained, “GMG Cares focuses on three key pillars—the planet, community, and our people. Our initiatives underscore our commitment to prioritizing our workforce and the environment. The ‘Inspire People’ pillar is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of employees, supporting their career growth, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion."
As part of the 'Community' pillar, GMG has partnered with Dubai's Community Development Authority (CDA) to support the Solidarity Initiative, assisting families affected by recent severe weather. GMG is contributing by donating 6,250 food staples worth over AED 70,000 to help families displaced by the record-breaking storm in Dubai.
Under the 'Planet' pillar, GMG has partnered with the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) for the 'Dubai Can' initiative, installing a free water station at the Al Qudra cycle track. This initiative has significantly reduced plastic waste, eliminating up to 294,236 plastic bottles. GMG plans to install more water stations in other communities. Additionally, GMG's Everyday Goods – Retail division has eliminated single-use plastics in its stores and replaced 35,000 square meters of plastic tape with eco-friendly alternatives in its warehouses, saving 415,226 plastic bottles from landfills by installing water filters in its offices.
The 'People' pillar focuses on employee well-being. GMG introduced a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) policy in 2023 to foster a work environment that values unique differences and contributions. The DE&I committee aims to ensure equal opportunities for all employees. GMG has partnered with Al Noor Special Needs Centre to provide training and employment opportunities for people of determination and launched the "EmpowHer" initiative to support women's career advancement and leadership development.
Additionally, GMG has established the GMG Sports Club, offering over 640 hours of sports activities for employees, benefiting more than 850 staff members from January 2024 to June 2025.
Through continuous investment in various CSR activities, GMG remains committed to a sustainable future, positively impacting the environment, society, and its employees.
