GEs enhanced energy efficiency innovations at World Future Energy Summit 2015 to drive sustainable growth

GE (NYSE: GE) is presenting its advanced energy efficiency innovations that drive the regions sustainable growth at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2015, the regions largest gathering on future energy, to be held from January 19 to 22, 2015, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center.

GE is also an active participant in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), hosted by Masdar from January 17 to 24, and will mark January 18 as Energy Efficiency Day at the ecomagination Center which marks its first anniversary this year located in Masdar City. The Energy Efficiency Day will highlight GEs tangible platforms and innovative approaches to achieve better outcomes in driving energy sector efficiency.

At the Energy Efficiency Day, GE will unveil a special white paper on the UAE, focused on how the adoption of energy efficient technologies can strengthen long-term energy security while generating national wealth savings and decreasing carbon intensity in the electricity value chain.

Nabil Habayeb, GEs President & CEO for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey, said: With population growth and infrastructure development, demand for energy is rising across the region at significant rates. To address this, it is important to continue to develop highly efficient models for energy production, distribution and consumption. Enhancing efficiency across all touch-points of the energy sector supply chain will promote the industrys sustainable growth by optimizing processes, achieving productivity leaps and effectively meeting the growing demand for energy.

He added: WFES and ADSW are significant global platforms that highlight the newest trends in the energy sector, as well as the opportunities and challenges for the future. As a long-term partner in the regions energy sector landscape, GE is highlighting solutions that can bring a transformational shift in energy sector efficiency, especially by drawing on our Future of Work approach. Further, the Energy Efficiency Day we are hosting at the ecomagination Center will focus on training professionals on the importance of driving energy efficiency.

Habayeb said that the white paper on the UAEs energy sector will further underline how retrofit and software enhancements at the power plant level can contribute to high efficiency gains in power generation. With a high percentage of electricity generated in the country coming from natural gas, the country has already taken concerted efforts to diversify the energy sources. However, in conjunction with other cost and resource-saving initiatives, a vital component in achieving long-term energy security in the UAE is the transition towards higher efficiency technology along the electricity value chain. Our White Paper estimates that significant energy and cost savings can be achieved through efficiency improvements in the extraction process.

At the Energy Efficiency Day, GE will host a tour of the ecomagination Center, in addition to launching a bespoke Energy Efficiency Course for non-engineers. The tour will cover all aspects of Distributed Power, Water, Lighting and Wind solutions by GE.

GE will continue to build on this area of focus at their stand at WFES, putting a spotlight on its ecomagination and Industrial Internet technologies. Ecomagination is GEs technology platform to increase customer productivity and drive cleaner energy solutions, while the Industrial Internet underlines the companys unique strategy of leveraging big data and big iron (industrial machinery) to achieve significant productivity leaps.

Deb Frodl, GEs global Executive Director of ecomagination, will address a panel discussion on how ecomagination and the Industrial Internet come together to drive energy efficiency, while Rania Rostom, Chief Innovation Officer for GE in the Middle East, North Africa & Turkey will present GEs approach to the Future of Work at a tech-talk session. By facilitating a global model of localized innovation and co-creation, the Future of Work opens up new markets and careers, and ensures sustainably higher growth in jobs and incomes.

Included among the ecomagination products on display is a GE Jenbacher gas engine. Capable of utilizing a variety of gas types including natural gas, flare gas, biogas, biomass, landfill gas and other gaseous fuel types, Jenbacher engines help industrial companies and municipalities meet their need for reliable on-site power. The full product line has set the standard for continuous innovation, high-power density, and low installation costs and emissions.

GE will also showcase the ecomagination-certified Brilliant Wind Turbine, a technology that pushes power and efficiency boundaries. With the power of software, analytics and advanced manufacturing technologies backing them, the solution integrates energy storage, advanced controls and forecasting algorithms to manage the variability of wind and position it for a subsidy-free world.

GE is also focusing on its high efficiency H-class heavy duty gas turbines, the worlds largest and most efficient, offering greater fuel flexibility and providing the most cost-effective conversion of natural gas to electricity in the industry. The HA platforms are offered in two models with a broad power range of 275 to 470 MW. GEs 9HA gas turbines offer 600 to 700 MW 1x1 combined cycle power blocks and can achieve over 61 percent net combined cycle efficiency.

Also on showcase are GE Predictivity solutions, which harness the capabilities of the Industrial Internet to deliver solutions that enable GE power generation customers to operate more efficiently, dynamically, profitably and armed with the information to make better decisions. A 3D printer representative of those GE uses in advanced technology manufacturing will also be on hand, to show tangibly what the future of manufacturing can look like.

GE is also conducting a Shape your Future interactive survey over Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, inviting the public to answer a survey on how they perceive the future in 2040. The questions will cover efficiency, skillsets, technology, innovation and collaboration.
