Elite Club for Fixed Wireless Communications Charts Path to Smart Transformation and Economic Growth in the GCC Region
The 15th Huawei World Network Forum, held in Istanbul, featured the third meeting of the Elite Fixed Wireless Communications Club (Elite FWA Club). Industry leaders and telecommunications experts gathered to discuss the future of 5G fixed wireless communications, highlighting its role in advancing digital economies, supporting smart transformation, and aligning with national development goals across the GCC region.
The meeting, following the club’s inaugural session in Dubai last year, has established Elite FWA Club as a vital platform for telecom operators, solution providers, and industry experts to exchange insights, experiences, and foster strategic cooperation. Discussions underscored the importance of advancing 5.5G technologies to drive digital transformation across sectors, including healthcare, education, transportation, and environmental sustainability.
Representatives from regional telecom giants, including STC, CITC, and Omantel, presented on topics such as user experience management, service innovation, and the economic potential of 5G-Advanced. Bocar A. Ba, CEO of the SAMENA Telecommunications Council, emphasized the role of advanced 5G in digital inclusion, bridging gaps in underserved areas, and supporting ITU and Broadband Commission initiatives.
Leaders highlighted the transformative applications of advanced 5G in addressing unique regional needs. Abdulaziz Al-Duwaish from STC Kuwait discussed how 5G supports climate resilience, while Omantel’s Hani Al Mukhaini shared insights on network improvements and customer-centric strategies tailored to the Omani market. Huawei’s Edwin Wang introduced the CPE chip, a game-changer for fixed wireless communications, supporting advanced applications like 4K broadcasting, cloud gaming, and AI-enhanced smart home technologies.
The discussions also covered strategies to align 5G initiatives with national visions like Kuwait Vision 2035 and Oman Vision 2040, focusing on sustainable infrastructure and energy efficiency. Huawei continues to play a critical role in the region’s 5G fixed wireless ecosystem, providing tools and solutions to help telecom operators optimize performance and meet business objectives.
