The workshop, held at DEWAs Sustainable Building in Al Quoz, supports DEWAs strategy to develop a generation of knowledge-economy focused Emiratis capable of working towards a sustainable future.
The Student Media Talent Programme is part of a project supported by Dubai Educational Zone to improve the media skills of Emirati students in Dubais government schools. This contributes to preparing an media-savvy generation of Emiratis.
Weve learnt from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai that Leadership is a combination of intelligence, resourcefulness, wisdom, a strong personality and aspiration to the greatest of things. His Highness has also observed that: Anyone who can improve the lives of those around him is a leader. Similarly, anyone who can serve people and make them happy is a leader. A leader is also a person capable of creating positive change, whether at work or at home, and of innovating and creating even the simplest of things, said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA
At DEWA, we adopt an established strategy that enhances leadership among all staff and departments. It educates all employees about the ways to build successful leadership. These include the abilities to influence others and guide their work to achieve the common objectives that affect the outcomes of the organisation, and also to direct its resources to achieve them. We also support and empower UAE National staff, develop their skills, and train them on the best leadership practices. We prepare them so that each becomes a leader in his or her position. We do this using a set of skills that include strategic thinking, confidence building, leading teams, planning, problem-solving, decision-making, leading the change, strategy development, training management, and effective communications in the workplace, added Al Tayer.
Our excellence in enhancing, developing, and supporting the leadership spirit is reflected in a series of successes and accomplishments that we have achieved in all areas, locally, regionally, and globally. There is no real success without teamwork. Theres no successful and effective teamwork without a wise leadership. DEWAs leadership team was the Stevie Award gold winner at the 11th Annual International Business Awards for Best Leadership Team in the world. DEWA has surpassed global prestigious competitors to demonstrate the efficiency and capability of UAE Nationals and organisations to compete globally, noted Al Tayer.
The workshop included a question-and-answer session where Al Tayer dealth with students enquiries about leadership in DEWAs success, the smart government initiative and DEWAs achievements and competitiveness globally.
HE Dr. Ahmad Eid Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Educational Zone, thanked DEWA and appreciated its efforts, led by Al Tayer. He commended its integrated and effective role in supporting educational initiatives, and its continuous support and sponsorship of Dubai Educational Zones events and activities, especially the Student Media Talent Programme. He emphasised that the workshop and hosting the students programme, which is full of events and knowledge activities, equip the students with non-conventional knowledge and provide them with experiences by prominent organisations in Dubai and the UAE.
Dr. Al Mansouri emphasised the importance of National educational partnerships with different organisations in society. This adds an exceptional educational experience to the students, motivates their creativity and excellence, and promotes a culture of quality and innovation. He emphasised that DEWA is an ideal partner that takes upon its shoulders the responsibility of playing an educational role as education is a social issue. Its success and excellence depend on societys embracing students and fulfilling the obligations of the UAE to them.
Dr. Al Mansouri urged the students enrolled in the Student Media Talent Programme at the Dubai Educational Zone to appreciate the experience of DEWAs workshop and to take full advantage of it, especially as it is organised by a reputable organisation that has established its position in Dubais development, regionally and globally.
