DEWA organises Creativity Workshop for talented Emiratis in collaboration with Emirates Talent Association

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a workshop for a number of talented and innovative young people in the UAE, in collaboration with Emirates Talent Association, at Grand Hyatt hotel in Dubai. The workshop, titled Creativity Workshop, supports DEWAs strategy to support innovation and creativity, and achieve its vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. The workshop supports a joint agreement signed last month between DEWA and Emirates Talent Association, to support talented Emirati students and young people in scientific fields to support innovation and creativity in the UAE.

This workshop supports the announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to mark 2015 as the Year of Innovation in the UAE to encourage innovation and creativity. These will be standard and official practices to develop government services, face challenges, and contribute to enhancing the efficiency and performance of government work. We adopt innovation across all our operations to support organisational excellence, raise the efficiency and performance of work and improve government services to make Dubai and the UAE the most innovative in the world, said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer commended the efforts of Emirates Talent Association led by HE Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai, Chairman of the Association, in identifying innovative young people who have the capabilities and talents in different scientific fields.

Organising this workshop, in cooperation with Emirates Talent Association, is part of DEWAs commitment to support outstanding Emirati students and train them to go through the collective thinking experience as an important tool for creativity and inspiration, and to adopt creative ideas in various areas of work. The workshop also supports DEWAs strategy to engage all stakeholders and learn their ideas and suggestions that contribute to improving work at DEWA, added Al Tayer.

DEWA spares no effort in supporting talented Emiratis in accordance with their abilities in various sectors. We provide them with scholarships to join the best educational programmes at leading universities inside and outside the UAE. This complements our efforts to support the Dubai Plan 2021, to establish Dubai as a city of happy, creative and empowered people, and the Dubai Innovation Strategy, to position Dubai as the most innovative city in the World, concluded Al Tayer.

At the workshop, participants were divided into groups to discuss five subjects related to DEWAs areas of work. These included Solar Power, Smart Grid, Smart Home, Smart Transportation, and Water Desalination. The talented were assigned to the different groups prior to the workshop based on the interests of each of them. Each group was asked to research the assigned subject, select one problem and propose solutions to address it. During the workshop, participants discussed the proposed solutions and evaluated them against a number of criteria. They voted for one solution and developed an action plan for its implementation. They also used social media networks to share their solutions for feedback from the public on the proposed solutions. This was also taken into consideration when the final results were discussed.

Munira Safar Secretary-General of the Emirates Talent Associations, Dr. Shafie Al Neyadi, Colonel Khaled Al Razzuqi, Dr. Manahel Thabet, Chairwoman of the World Genius Directory and Intellectual Advisor of Association, and Inventor Ahmed Majan attended the workshop. At the end of the workshop, each team leader presented the teams proposal. Al Tayer thanked the participants and presented them with certificates of appreciation.
