DEWA and IRENA organise workshop on accelerating residential solar energy

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in cooperation with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), has actually organised a workshop, called, 'Accelerating Residential Solar Energy in the UAE.' The workshop supports DEWA's efforts to adopt sustainable and clean energy strategies, and its leadership in introducing the Shams Dubai effort to set up photovoltaic (PV) photovoltaic panels in homes and buildings.
The workshop was gone to by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Mohamed El-Farnawany, Director of Strategic Management & Executive Direction at IRENA, DEWA's Executive Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents, federal government and private organisations from the UAE and GCC countries, and a number of international business working in solar PV systems. The workshop, which was kept in Raffles hotel in Dubai, consisted of panel discussions lead by professionals and experts from the UAE and abroad.

In his opening speech, Al Tayer welcomed the participants and noted that the workshop was held at a time when DEWA is organising an awareness campaign to inform all consumers throughout Dubai about the Shams Dubai effort, which DEWA introduced earlier this year. Shams Dubai makes it possible for consumers to produce solar energy by setting up PV panels on rooftops and connecting them to DEWA's grid.

"The UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, manages excellent significance to diversifying the energy mix. The UAE's green vision acknowledges that alternative energy is the energy of the future. Renewable resource provides clean and sustainable energy that contributes to attaining a balance between advancement and environment to ensure a clean, healthy and safe environment for future generations. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum when observed that, "Without a vision to direct our course, and without aspiration that understands no limitations, we can never ever construct a brilliant future for generations to come,"" said Al Tayer.

"Despite the truth that the UAE is among the biggest oil-producers in the world, and has big natural gas reserves, it is investing greatly into mega pioneering tasks to produce clean and renewable energy to secure the environment and our precious resources. Our smart leadership follows in the footprints of our fathers and grandpas who paid great focus on the environment and its protection. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the starting father of the UAE, put great focus on environmental sustainability for the advantage of future generations. He observed that, "Our environment and the resources within it are not ours. They are just on loan to us, and in our charge. It is the responsibility of us all to look after them, and pass them on unhurt to future generations,"" included Al Tayer.

"Every hour, the sun beams onto Earth sufficient energy to satisfy worldwide energy requires for an entire year. That's why adopting renewable energy in basic, and photovoltaic in specific, has become a strategic necessity for all countries worldwide. In addition to huge national solar energy tasks such as the DEWA-managed Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai nations are also motivating regional production of photovoltaic energy in homes and buildings. In the United States, for instance, there are approximately 700,000 households with solar systems and, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), 66,440 brand-new solar systems were installed in the first three months of this year, as an outcome of enhanced innovations and falling expenses." "In the UAE, DEWA has introduced the Shams Dubai initiative to support the Smart Dubai effort, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make Dubai the smartest city on the planet. The initiative engages the local community in producing sustainable energy and adding to achieving the objectives of the Dubai Government to diversify the energy mix. Shams Dubai enables building owners to install systems to create electricity using photovoltaic panels. The electrical energy is made use of on-site and the surplus is exported to DEWA's network. A balanced out in between exported and imported electricity devices is carried out and the customer account is settled based upon this balanced out. To regulate connecting electrical power produced from PV panels to the power circulation system in Dubai, the Dubai Executive Council issued resolution number 46 for 2014 to put in place a thorough structure at a legal level to connect electricity produced from solar energy to the circulation system. The resolution specifies DEWA's responsibility in establishing a policy for the production of electrical energy from solar energy, and the adoption of binding agreement terms and designs, and monitoring and supervising producers," stated Al Tayer.

"In addition to being a clean and endless natural source of energy, the costs of producing solar energy have actually decreased over the last few years, while photovoltaic innovation has enhanced considerably. This makes Shams Dubai a crucial economic alternative for consumers in Dubai. It adds to accomplishing the goals of the Dubai Government to diversify energy resources and supports the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, introduced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to develop the UAE as one of the international leaders in green economy, while keeping a sustainable environment that supports economic development in the long run," included Al Tayer.

"The UAE Vision 2021 objectives to make the UAE one of the finest countries on the planet by 2021, when we celebrate the golden jubilee of our beloved union. The UAE has already achieved innovative positions in different international signs. Today, we come together to discuss establishing and expanding using solar power in buildings in the UAE, with professionals and specialists from the UAE and abroad. We will achieve our goal to become leaders in harnessing the solar power, which Allah has provided us. This will be accomplished thanks to the partnership of the government and economic sectors and people. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as soon as observed that, 'Our country might be little, but our individuals are amazing and the tasks that we have accomplished are fantastic. We have no way towards the future aside from by signing up with efforts and working together. So together let us lead our country and generations to a brighter and more thriving future'," concluded Al Tayer.

The workshop included a speech by Al Farnwany, in addition to specialised sessions that went over the most recent worldwide advancements in PV solar systems, the function of imagination in accelerating the adoption of solar power in the UAE, ways to lower solar PV expenses, and comparing worldwide policies with the UAE's existing policies. DEWA also showcased its experience with Shams Dubai and shared the lessons learned from the effort. IRENA showcased its Navigator project. Dr. Saad Al Jandal from the Energy and Building Research Centre at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, provided an introduction of the grid-connected rooftop solar PV tasks in Kuwait. Experts from the USA, Germany, Brazil, and India also discussed their experiences with rooftop solar energy systems.

Individuals commended the info highlighted in the workshop, keeping in mind that it will open new horizons in the UAE and GCC in basic, accelerating the adoption of solar power in buildings.
