Department of Energy organises Energy is Participation March supporting UAE national team in Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019

Abu Dhabi, 10 March 2019: As the official partner of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) organised yesterday (Saturday) the Energy is Participation march, which was held at Um Al-Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi. The event was hosted in the presence of His Excellency Eng. Awaidha Murshed, Al Marar, DoE Chairman.

Energy is Participation was attended by former UAE national team football player Haidar Alo Ali, youth delegations from the Abu Dhabi Youth Council, DoE staff and more than 400 volunteers from various community groups across the UAE.

The event formed part of the Powering the Olympics campaign launched by the DoE, which is organising a number of initiatives and events in spaces across Abu Dhabi City and in the events host venues. The campaign aims to enhance sport, support the of hosting of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, promote the objectives of the Department and highlight to the public its efforts to support the process of sustainable development within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Energy is Participation reflects the Department of Energys keenness to support the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi and promote active community participation in all major events in the emirate. It forms part of our social engagement focus that works to raise awareness of energy by highlighting the importance of rationalising consumption, adopting environmentally-friendly technologies and planning for a prosperous future based on sustainable development, said HE Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, DoE Chairman.

We arranged the march to bring together the community and unite youth leaders and stakeholders in a celebration that highlights the strength of cooperation. By partnering with the Special Olympics, the Department of Energy is able to project its image to the world, helping it to achieve national goals and the active contribution of all members of society in the energy development strategy, he added.

The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will be held in the UAE capital from March 14-22. The major international sports event will host over 7,000 athletes representing more than 170 countries.
