Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah Achieves Breakthrough with Successful Implantation of ‘Fantom Encore’ Stent
Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, under Emirates Health Services (EHS), has achieved a medical milestone by successfully implanting the advanced biodegradable ‘Fantom Encore’ stent in a 55-year-old patient suffering from chest pain and stable angina. The groundbreaking procedure was completed successfully, with the patient discharged in excellent health.
The medical team, led by Dr. Arif Al Nooryani, CEO of Al Qassimi Hospital, and Dr. Ahmed Khashaba, Professor of Cardiology and Consultant in Therapeutic Catheterization, carried out the innovative procedure. This achievement heralds a new era in cardiac care, reintroducing biodegradable stents as a superior treatment option for arterial conditions.
Unlike traditional metal stents, the ‘Fantom Encore’ stent, developed by B. Braun, promotes the natural functions of blood vessels post-treatment and dissolves over time, enhancing long-term recovery. As the third generation of bioabsorbable stents, it offers unique advantages, including enhanced visibility during procedures, ease of placement, and safe biodegradation.
Dr. Arif Al Nooryani highlighted the advanced design of the stent, which incorporates the amino acid tyrosine to ensure efficiency and safety. He stated, “This innovative technology not only treats blood vessels effectively but also preserves their natural movement, transforming cardiac care and improving patient outcomes.”
Adding to this, Dr. Ahmed Khashaba emphasized the stent’s versatility, rapid absorption, and tailored treatment options.
