Al Jaddaf Rotana Complex has strengthened its sustainability credentials after its Dubai properties received recognition under Green Key, Travelife and Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) programmes for their continued efforts toward responsible hotel operations.
Al Jaddaf Rotana Suite Hotel has achieved Green Key Certification and the DST Silver Award, while Arabian Park, Edge by Rotana, and Park Apartments, Edge by Rotana, have received Travelife Certification and the DST Bronze Award.
The recognitions reflect sustainability initiatives implemented across the properties, covering energy and water conservation, waste management, sustainable procurement, guest amenities, food and beverage operations and colleague engagement.
Measurable reductions in energy consumption and waste
The complex has reported measurable progress in reducing resource consumption. In 2025, Al Jaddaf Rotana Suite Hotel recorded a 9.2% reduction in total energy consumption, compared with the previous year, while Arabian Park achieved a 5.4% reduction.
Al Jaddaf Rotana Suite Hotel has also achieved 100% diversion of waste from landfill, with food and general waste processed through a Waste-to-Energy facility to support resource recovery.
Stefan Schmid, Complex General Manager, Al Jaddaf Rotana Complex, said the recognitions validate the progress made by the properties while reinforcing the importance of turning sustainability commitments into measurable action.
He said the complex's initiatives range from reducing energy consumption and diverting waste from landfill to engaging colleagues and communities, with the aim of making responsible hospitality part of everyday operations.
Al Jaddaf Rotana Suite Hotel expands sustainable practices
At Al Jaddaf Rotana Suite Hotel, sustainability initiatives extend across resource management, waste reduction, guest amenities and food and beverage operations.
The hotel has reduced its reliance on conventional single-use plastics by introducing alternatives such as FSC-certified kraft paper packaging, corn starch-based products and wheat straw fibre items. Its in-room dispenser range has also been converted to wheat straw fibre, replacing conventional plastic dispensers.
Other measures include the use of wooden pencils and reusable metal pens as alternatives to plastic stationery.
Food and beverage operations have also adopted more sustainable practices, with takeaway containers and packaging shifting towards paper-based and other alternative materials. The hotel also uses wood-dust straws and provides Green Meeting options for events seeking more environmentally conscious arrangements.
Its waste management programme further supports resource efficiency, with food and general waste directed to a Waste-to-Energy facility rather than landfill.
Arabian Park strengthens environmental and social practices
Arabian Park, Edge by Rotana achieved Travelife Certification in 2025, followed by the DST Bronze Award in 2026.
The property's sustainability programme focuses on energy and water conservation, waste management, food waste reduction and sustainable procurement. Measures to reduce dependence on single-use plastics are also part of its wider approach to improving resource efficiency.
These initiatives are designed to integrate environmental and responsible practices into the hotel's regular operations rather than treating sustainability as a separate programme.
Park Apartments continues sustainability efforts
Park Apartments, Edge by Rotana also achieved Travelife Certification in 2025 and the DST Bronze Award in 2026.
Its sustainability measures cover resource conservation, waste management, sustainable procurement and reduced reliance on single-use plastics. Community-focused initiatives also form part of the property's approach to responsible hospitality.
Colleague engagement remains central to sustainability strategy
Across the Al Jaddaf Rotana Complex properties, employee engagement is another component of the sustainability programme.
The complex said 100% of colleagues have completed the required sustainability training through Rotana's RISE platform, supported by ongoing awareness and refresher activities.
Community initiatives include donation drives, linen repurposing, charitable campaigns and employee volunteering. These activities complement efforts focused on energy and water conservation, food waste reduction, sustainable procurement and waste management.
The latest certifications and awards highlight the complex's continued efforts to integrate sustainability into daily hotel operations, while supporting Dubai and the UAE's broader ambitions for more responsible and sustainable tourism.
