UAE Launches Dh100 Million Fund to Drive Long-Term Impact in Non-Profit Sector

The UAE has officially activated a Dh100 million Non-Profit Organisations Empowerment Fund, marking a strategic shift towards building a more structured, results-driven social sector focused on long-term impact and sustainability.

Announced by Shamma bint Sohail Al Mazrouei, the initiative introduces a new framework aimed at transforming community efforts into measurable outcomes, while strengthening institutional capacity across non-profit organisations.

Speaking at a press conference, Al Mazrouei highlighted that although the UAE has long benefited from active community initiatives and strong volunteer engagement, a key challenge has been the absence of a system linking funding directly to measurable impact and long-term continuity.

“The challenge was not a lack of funding or intent, but the lack of a framework that connects efforts and measures impact,” she said, noting that the fund is designed to convert ideas into sustainable change over time.

Focus on Key Sectors

The initiative will prioritise sectors that directly influence everyday life, including education, healthcare, environment, family development, and broader community services. These areas have been identified as critical to strengthening social cohesion and national development.

Elevating the Role of Non-Profits

Officials emphasised that the fund positions non-profit organisations as core development partners, capable of contributing to economic growth, enhancing social stability, and creating community-based opportunities. The initiative encourages organisations to move beyond service delivery and focus on scalable, high-impact programmes.

The fund also builds on the vision of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who first announced the initiative as part of a broader national strategy to enhance volunteering and community engagement.

Emphasis on Awareness and Behaviour Change

Authorities highlighted a growing shift in how social initiatives are designed, with increased focus on behavioural change and public awareness. Storytelling and emotional engagement are being recognised as powerful tools to drive participation and amplify impact.

Campaigns launched under national directives—including large-scale food aid initiatives—were cited as examples of how aligning with public sentiment and compelling narratives can significantly expand reach and effectiveness.

Building a Stronger Ecosystem

The fund is also expected to enhance collaboration between government entities, the private sector, and non-profit organisations. Capacity-building efforts will ensure that organisations are equipped to sustain and scale their impact over the long term.

With this launch, the UAE aims to create a more integrated and accountable non-profit ecosystem—one that not only supports initiatives but ensures they deliver lasting value to society.
