Dubai's Global Village Opens Season 31 with 600-Drone Show, Parades and New Attractions
Dubai's Global Village has opened its 31st season with a packed opening night, colourful cultural parades, a confetti shower and a spectacular display featuring 600 drones lighting up the sky above the multicultural entertainment destination.
Running until May 2027 under the theme “A More Wonderful World,” Season 31 brings new attractions, returning favourites, international food experiences and entertainment for visitors of all ages.
Guests began arriving ahead of the 6pm opening, with families, groups of friends and visitors from across the UAE gathering to explore the destination and experience the start of Dubai's outdoor entertainment season.
600 Drones Light Up the Opening Night
One of the evening's main highlights was a 600-drone display that illuminated the sky above Global Village. The drones formed the destination's logo, a motorbike, shopping bags and other shapes as visitors watched and captured the spectacle on their phones.
The opening celebrations also featured the Parade of the World, showcasing cultures from across the globe, alongside a choir performance and a confetti shower to welcome guests.
At Dragon Lake, laser effects brought the central attraction to life, drawing crowds who stopped to watch and record the light show.
Visitor Saleh said the lighting made the dragon appear almost lifelike, praising the design and visual effects.
Families Turn Opening Night into a Tradition
Families were among the many visitors who arrived to mark the start of the new season.
Abdul Majid Al Suwaidi, who attended with his children, said opening day had become a family tradition. He said the children had been counting down to the launch, eager to watch the parade and explore the new pavilions.
For many families, the visit marked an opportunity to walk around the destination, enjoy dinner together and take in the entertainment.
Another visitor, Abdul Badi, said his five-year-old son, Abdul Ahad, and his siblings were particularly excited to play around the illuminated water fountain.
“The children have been waiting for Global Village to open, and this is the first thing they wanted to do when we came in,” he said, adding that they were enjoying every moment of the visit.
Food Stalls Draw Crowds Around Dragon Lake
Food remained a major attraction on opening night, with visitors exploring street-food stalls, restaurants and cafés offering flavours from around the world.
Floating food stalls along Dragon Lake served Asian dishes and snacks, giving guests an opportunity to grab quick bites between rides, pavilions and performances.
Restaurant Plaza, located beside Carnaval and overlooking the Falcon Stage, offers another dining option for visitors who want to enjoy a meal alongside live entertainment.
New additions to the area's restaurant line-up include Trabzon Turkish Restaurant, Robo Al Sham, Hawawshi Al Rabie and Chicking. Visitors looking for coffee and desserts can also explore new cafés such as Vinci Dolci, Emir Bey Gourmet and Uzungol Café.
Dessert District has returned with a refreshed look and an expanded selection of sweet treats.
More Than 200 Attractions Planned for Season 31
Global Village's latest season features more than 200 attractions, alongside international shopping, cultural showcases, dining experiences and live entertainment.
The destination is scheduled to present around 40,000 shows throughout the season, spanning music, dance, acrobatics and performances for different age groups.
The opening-day programme included Hello GSA and PJ Masks at the Kids' Theatre, as well as Retumbar and All Aboard on the Main Stage.
The season also introduces new experiences alongside established favourites, with a new roller coaster among the attractions announced for visitors.
Visitors Queue to Experience the First Night
The opening drew visitors from Dubai and neighbouring emirates, with some groups adjusting their work schedules to attend.
Marlene, a sales executive who travelled with nine friends from Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai, said the group had planned their visit well in advance. After waiting more than half an hour in the physical ticket queue, they decided to purchase their tickets online.
She said the queue did not change their plans, as the group wanted to begin the season together after work.
Visitors continued arriving well into the evening, with Global Village remaining open until midnight on opening night.
From a Small Exhibition to a Dubai Landmark
Global Village began in 1997 as a collection of small kiosks showcasing international products and cultures near Dubai Creek during the Dubai Shopping Festival period.
Over the years, it has developed into one of Dubai's prominent seasonal entertainment destinations, bringing together international cultures, shopping, food and live performances in one location.
With Season 31 now underway, the opening-night celebrations offered visitors a first look at the attractions and experiences planned through May 2027.
