Dubai, 11 March 2019: Realizing the importance of conversation and the impact of articulating ideas through words, the World Majlis at Expo 2020 Dubai aims to spark up a global conversation on topics of great significance with respect to our times and society.

Majlis is an Arabic word. It refers to the meeting room or front parlor used to entertain visitors in Arab homes. With reference to the Emirati culture, the Majlis (council) has traditionally been an essential part of Emirati social and political life, serving as a forum. Typically Majlis are sitting places where community members gather to discuss local events and issues, exchange news, receive guests, socialize and be entertained.

At the World Majlis, the whole world becomes the community, and the members at the forum are those from different parts of the world. Thus celebrating the diversity in our dialogues, yet uniting in our visions.

World Majlis unveils a platform that encourages global dialogue which caters to respectfulness and inclusiveness between the various parties involved. World Majlis embraces the diverse, high quality, accessible and thought-provoking opinion to address the major concerns of our global society.

It is a concept put to practice in line with the ethos of World Expos to generate new perspectives while incubating meaningful connections between people and new ideas. It has been designed to inspire a positive outlook on the future.

The World Majlis features significant conversations and discussions weaved around topical subjects. It echoes with diverse voices as current and future thought leaders from a range of backgrounds come together for conversations that matter. It also creates room for new perspectives and connections between people and ideas.

The participants include 15-20 thought leaders from diverse disciplines together with 15-20 inspiring students that are deeply engaged on the topic. It is hosted by a senior leader that is personally and professionally committed to the specific World Majlis topic, wherein everyone participates on an equal footing in offering expertise, ideas and views.
