University Hospital Sharjah introduces total hip replacement surgery
The University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) has announced that it is now offering total hip replacement surgery, one of the most widespread orthopaedic surgeries being performed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to meet the requirements of patients in the emirate of Sharjah, as well as different parts of the country.
The new patient care service is managed by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon from South Korea, Dr Hong Suk Kwak at the Himchan UHS Joint and Spine Center.
As one in five people in the UAE or 20 per cent of the population experiences from common joint conditions, having an extremely experienced surgeon and specialist enables the hospital to provide the speciality within its premises and address the increasing demand for treatment and surgery.
South Korea has a high number of patients suffering from hip joint diseases such as deformation and arthritis.
Specialists in the field have emerged in the country over the years. Dr Kwak is a highly experienced surgeon who specializes in pelvis and hip surgeries and is trained at Seoul National University Hospital.
Dr Kwak said: When having any pain or discomfort in the area, it must not be ignored and seeing a physician is necessary as soon as possible to get an accurate diagnosis at an early stage.
Before conducting any surgery, all factors affecting the condition of the patient, such as age and activity level, are considered so we can match the ideal prosthetic material that will bring the expected outcome.
In the hip, joint replacement surgery, an artificial joint or prosthesis made of metal, plastic, and ceramic will be implanted in the body and will remain throughout its lifespan.
