Uncommon Café Shines in Al Marmoom: A Peaceful Retreat with Unique Appeal

Al Marmoom, a serene area near Qudra Lakes, has recently become a popular destination for residents seeking an escape from the fast-paced city life. Known for its tranquil environment, the region has witnessed the rise of various pop-up eateries, camping locations, and even a film festival, attracting those looking to enjoy nature and community events.

One of the standout attractions this year is Uncommon, a unique pop-up café that has taken Al Marmoom by storm. Inspired by a mirror-clad house in California, designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings, Uncommon has quickly become a local favorite since its inception in 2021. This year, it has set up shop in Al Marmoom, offering visitors a peaceful retreat with a touch of modern style.

The café operates daily from 4 pm to 1 am, remaining open until the end of March. Uncommon has partnered with the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) to offer a range of entertainment, including arcade games, fire pits, and live music. The café's menu is curated by renowned Emirati chef Sheikha Hesa Al Khalifa, adding a local flavor to the experience.

Founder Fawaghi Jamal shared the story of how Uncommon’s popularity exploded. “When I first started Uncommon, I thought it would just be for family and friends,” she said. “But after a viral video, a queue quickly formed outside. My family and I ran the café together—my father hosted, my brothers manned the reception, and I cooked. It was truly a family-run business.”

In addition to its impressive offerings, visitors to Al Marmoom can also experience Dubai Lights, a series of lighting installations designed by the artist duo Vendel & De Wolf. This feature adds to the area’s charm, making it a must-visit for residents and tourists alike.

For those with a love for the arts, the Marmoom Film Festival is another key highlight of the area. Running until January 12, the festival offers over 30 workshops and seminars focused on filmmaking, acting, and production techniques. Additionally, the Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children is hosting various creative workshops, including pottery shaping, scarf printing, animation techniques, and other artistic activities for young talents.

Al Marmoom continues to be a vibrant hub for culture, nature, and relaxation, attracting visitors of all ages and interests. Whether for a peaceful retreat, artistic inspiration, or culinary delight, the area has something for everyone.
