Kuwait’s Al-Oyoun Women’s have won the third edition of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy Basketball Cup for Ladies 2026, concluding five days of competition at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy in Abu Dhabi.

Al Gharafa of Qatar finished as runners-up, while the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy Basketball Team of the UAE secured third place.

The tournament was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the “Mother of the Nation,” and under the directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy.

Coinciding with Emirati Women’s Day, celebrated this year under the theme “We Emerge Stronger and Better,” the tournament highlighted the UAE’s continued commitment to supporting women’s participation in sport and creating opportunities for athletes across the region.

Seven teams representing six countries competed in the five-day tournament: Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy from the UAE, Al Gharafa from Qatar, Salwa Al Sabah and Al-Oyoun Women’s from Kuwait, Salalah from Oman, Al-Muqawileen Club from Jordan, and 6th of October from Egypt.

The top three teams received their awards at the conclusion of the competition in the presence of representatives from regional and UAE sporting organisations, including the Arab Basketball Federation, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and UAE Basketball Federation.

H.E. Dr. Omniyat Al Hajri, Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, congratulated Al-Oyoun Women’s on their victory and praised all participating teams for their performances.

She noted that holding the competition alongside Emirati Women’s Day added significance to the event, while the participation of teams from across the region provided players with opportunities to gain experience, compete against different opponents and further develop their skills.

The successful conclusion of the tournament reflects the growing profile of women’s basketball in the region and Abu Dhabi’s role in bringing together athletes from across the Middle East and North Africa for high-level competition.
