International Charity Organisation Supports 60,000 Orphans During Ramadan
The International Charity Organisation (ICO) has launched a series of humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting 60,000 orphans in the UAE and abroad during the holy month of Ramadan. The efforts include the distribution of public donations, food parcels, clothing for orphans and their mothers, financial aid, medical assistance, and Eid gifts, according to the state news agency WAM.
Commitment to Orphan Welfare
Dr. Khaled Al-Khaja, Secretary General of the ICO, highlighted the organisation’s dedication to alleviating the financial burden on orphans, emphasizing that these initiatives are made possible through collaboration with charitable institutions and donors.
The ICO, established in Ajman in 1984, operates branches worldwide and continues to expand its reach. As part of its Ramadan initiatives, the organisation is also distributing 7,500 iftar meals daily across the UAE, ensuring that those in need receive essential support during the fasting month.
United in Giving: A National Humanitarian Effort
The ICO's charitable efforts align with broader national Ramadan initiatives, including the UAE Food Bank’s "United in Giving" campaign. Under the directive of Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum, wife of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, the campaign aims to provide seven million meals to underprivileged individuals.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Vice Chairman of the UAE Food Bank, emphasized the initiative’s role in fostering generosity and social responsibility. He described United in Giving as a national call to action, encouraging individuals, institutions, and philanthropists to contribute to humanitarian aid efforts.
A Legacy of Humanitarian Leadership
The UAE continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in charitable and humanitarian work, with Ramadan serving as a pivotal period for giving. Through initiatives like those led by the ICO and UAE Food Bank, the country upholds its values of compassion, generosity, and social solidarity, ensuring that vulnerable communities receive essential support.
