Gartner Predicts Mainstream Adoption of Everyday AI and Digital Employee Experience Within Two Years
Everyday AI and Digital Employee Experience (DEX) are on the cusp of becoming mainstream technologies, with adoption expected within the next two years, according to Gartner, Inc.'s latest Hype Cycle for Digital Workplace Applications, 2024. These innovations are poised to significantly impact workforce productivity and digital dexterity, driving organizational success into the next decade.
Matt Cain, Distinguished VP Analyst at Gartner, stated, "Everyday AI is set to reduce digital friction by enhancing how employees write, research, collaborate, and ideate. It is a fundamental component of DEX, which focuses on removing digital barriers and improving workforce digital dexterity—an essential element for organizational prosperity through 2030."
2024 has seen a pivotal shift for digital workplace application leaders. As the emphasis on hybrid and remote work diminishes, the focus is now turning towards the strategic integration of everyday AI. Positioned at the Peak of Inflated Expectations on Gartner's Hype Cycle, everyday AI is recognized for its potential to revolutionize workforce productivity by serving as an intelligent collaborator rather than just a tool.
Adam Preset, VP Analyst at Gartner, highlighted the evolving role of everyday AI in the workplace: "Everyday AI technology aims to help employees work with greater speed, comprehensiveness, and confidence. It supports a new era in the digital workplace, where intelligent software acts more like a collaborator."
As businesses seek to enhance productivity beyond traditional methods, everyday AI offers innovative solutions, enabling workers to efficiently synthesize information, answer complex questions, and create work artifacts with minimal guidance. This shift towards more sophisticated AI applications is anticipated to transform workforce productivity and drive significant business outcomes.
In parallel, the need for a robust DEX strategy has never been more critical. As nearly all employees increasingly engage with digital tools, organizations must prioritize DEX to attract and retain talent, boost employee engagement, and align business outcomes. However, DEX currently sits in the Trough of Disillusionment on Gartner's Hype Cycle, with interest waning due to unmet expectations from early implementations.
Gartner advises business leaders to adopt a holistic approach, integrating IT and non-IT partners, to create a meaningful DEX environment that empowers employees and encourages the adoption of new ways of working.
Gartner's insights on these trends and more will be further explored at the upcoming Gartner CIO & IT Executive Conference, scheduled for September 23-25 in São Paulo and November 19-21 in Dubai.
