From June 1, motorists in Dubai will pay 5% VAT on Salik toll charges, raising the cost of a peak-hour crossing from Dh6 to Dh6.30 and an off-peak crossing from Dh4 to Dh4.20. While the increase may appear modest on a per-trip basis, regular commuters who pass through multiple toll gates each day will see a recurring rise in their monthly transport expenses. The VAT collected will be remitted to the Federal Tax Authority, and motorists will not be charged retrospectively for previous toll crossings.
