With VAT being added to Salik toll charges from June 1, increasing the cost of every toll gate crossing in Dubai, do you think this is a fair adjustment or an added financial burden for daily commuters?

From June 1, motorists in Dubai will pay 5% VAT on Salik toll charges, raising the cost of a peak-hour crossing from Dh6 to Dh6.30 and an off-peak crossing from Dh4 to Dh4.20. While the increase may appear modest on a per-trip basis, regular commuters who pass through multiple toll gates each day will see a recurring rise in their monthly transport expenses. The VAT collected will be remitted to the Federal Tax Authority, and motorists will not be charged retrospectively for previous toll crossings. Do you think this change will significantly impact your commuting costs, or is the increase manageable? Share your views with us.
