Professor Omar Yaghi, born in 1965 in Amman, Jordan to a refugee family, has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing metal–organic frameworks—materials capable of trapping gases, harvesting water from air, and addressing environmental challenges. The Dubai Ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, praised the achievement as a source of pride for the Arab world, highlighting the region’s intellectual talent and potential. Yaghi, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, is known as the father of reticular chemistry and has published over 300 papers with more than 250,000 citations. Do you think this recognition will inspire more young Arabs to pursue science and innovation?
