Dr Rasha Buhumaid, Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Dean of Graduate Medical Education at MBRU – Dubai Health, highlighted that developing digital literacy is essential for medical students because patients increasingly arrive with health information they’ve researched online. At the 5th KT Future of Healthcare Summit 2025, she stressed that medical schools must integrate technology thoughtfully, using Big Data and Analytics to support care while teaching students critical thinking, evidence evaluation, and interprofessional collaboration. She also cautioned that overreliance on technology could limit students’ ability to function when systems fail, so schools must balance digital tools with traditional methods. What do you think — should medical education in the UAE focus more on digital literacy, or maintain traditional learning approaches?
