Why is Abu Dhabi offering free rides in autonomous taxis on Yas Island?

Abu Dhabi has expanded its autonomous taxi operations on Yas Island, offering free rides as part of efforts to scale up driverless mobility in the emirate. The service is being rolled out under the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) in partnership with Apollo Go and Autogo. These Level 4 autonomous vehicles can operate without a human driver under certain conditions and are currently available through the Autogo mobile app. Authorities plan to extend the service to Al Reem Island, Al Maryah Island, and Saadiyat Island as part of the emirate’s smart mobility strategy.
