Why have Indian passport fees increased in the UAE, and how much will applicants pay from July 1?

From July 1, 2026, the Indian government has increased passport service fees for applicants in the UAE as part of a global effort to standardise passport charges across Indian missions, marking the first major revision since 2012. A standard 36-page passport will now cost Dh450 under normal processing (up from Dh285) and Dh900 under the Tatkaal scheme, while a 60-page passport will cost Dh630 and Dh1,080, respectively. Fees for lost or damaged passports, Police Clearance Certificates and other consular services have also been revised, while children up to 8 years old applying for a fresh passport will receive a 10% discount on normal applications. The new rates apply across the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi, the Consulate General of India in Dubai, and all Indian Consular Application Centres, with separate service provider and welfare fund charges applicable.
