Why hasn’t Dubai’s Sustainable City set the trend it was supposed to?

Dubai’s Sustainable City, initially launched with high hopes of redefining urban living through eco-friendly infrastructure and sustainable practices, has faced several challenges that hindered it from setting the trend it aimed for. Despite its green spaces, solar-powered facilities, and waste management systems, the city has struggled with high upfront costs, logistical issues in integrating sustainable technologies, and cultural barriers that favor conventional living. Economic constraints, such as the high cost of sustainable technologies, and a lack of widespread policy support or incentives have further limited adoption rates. Additionally, low awareness of the long-term benefits of sustainable living and the city’s location away from key economic hubs have contributed to its underwhelming success in inspiring similar initiatives.
