How far has the Hafeet Rail progressed and where is construction happening?

The cross-border rail project, led by Etihad Rail in partnership with Oman Rail and Mubadala Investment Company, is now around 40% complete. Once finished, the 238km railway will connect the UAE and Oman, passing through key locations including Al Ain, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. The project includes major infrastructure such as 60 bridges (up to 34m high) and tunnels stretching 2.5km, with over 27 million cubic metres of earthworks already completed. Designed to link ports, industrial zones, and trade hubs, the railway is expected to boost regional connectivity, trade, and supply chain efficiency between the two countries. Do you think projects like this will significantly change travel and trade between the UAE and Oman, or will road transport still dominate?
