Ford Bolsters Regional Motorsport Presence with Mattias Ekström for 2025 Dakar Rally
Ford Performance has announced the addition of world-renowned rally and off-road driver Mattias Ekström to its driver lineup for the 2025 Dakar Rally, strengthening its competitive edge in the grueling motorsport event. Ekström, a two-time DTM champion, World Rallycross champion, and experienced rally raid competitor, will join Mitch Guthrie Jr., Nani Roma, and Carlos Sainz Sr. in driving the Ford Raptor T1+ across the challenging terrains of Saudi Arabia.
This strategic move underlines Ford's commitment to motorsport in the region and its ambition to dominate off-road competitions globally. Ekström, with his diverse racing background and proven rally raid expertise, is expected to be a key player in Ford's bid for victory in Dakar, one of the most prestigious off-road races in the world.
Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance, expressed his excitement: “Bringing Mattias Ekström into the Ford Performance family is a major step forward for our Dakar program. His experience and skills complement our strong lineup, and we’re confident in our chances with the Ford Raptor T1+.”
Matthew Wilson of M-Sport, Ford’s technical partner, added: “We’ve been following Mattias’ career closely, and his performance in off-road racing has been exceptional. We look forward to collaborating with him and his co-driver Emil as they bring their expertise to the team.”
Ekström shared his enthusiasm about joining Ford's Dakar team: “I’m thrilled to be part of Ford’s Dakar program. The Ford Raptor T1+ is an impressive vehicle, and we have a shared ambition to win the Dakar Rally. With the experience and talent within this team, I’m confident we can aim for the top.”
The anticipation for the 2025 Dakar Rally, set to take place in Saudi Arabia this January, is building, with Ford's participation adding to the excitement. As Ekström prepares for his first competitive outing with Ford at the Rally du Maroc, motorsport enthusiasts across the region are eagerly awaiting what promises to be an electrifying race.
