The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has announced what it describes as the largest commercial agreement in the history of rallying, following the acquisition of WRC Promoter GmbH by Cosmobilis, a French automotive technology platform, and Park Square Capital, a leading private credit investor.
The landmark long-term agreement covers the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC), introducing significant new investment aimed at expanding the sport's global reach, strengthening governance, enhancing fan engagement, and supporting long-term growth.
Major Investment to Drive Rallying's Next Chapter
The agreement marks a new era for both championships and aligns with the FIA's strategic vision under President Mohammed Ben Sulayem to strengthen its global motorsport portfolio.
According to the FIA, the investment will help make rallying more accessible, more competitive, and commercially stronger, while ensuring that the governing body continues to oversee the regulations and governance that underpin the sport.
The partnership also includes significantly greater FIA branding across international rally events and global broadcast coverage.
New FIA Growth Fund to Support Global Rally Development
A key feature of the agreement is the creation of a new FIA Growth Fund, which will finance projects designed to develop rallying worldwide.
The fund will support initiatives ranging from grassroots participation to elite-level competition, helping expand opportunities for drivers, teams, organisers and national motorsport clubs while strengthening the long-term sustainability of the sport.
Enhanced Fan Experience and Global Reach
Cosmobilis and Park Square Capital have outlined plans to increase the championships' international audience by improving storytelling, expanding digital distribution, and creating new multi-platform content.
The strategy aims to bring fans closer to the action through enhanced broadcast experiences, greater accessibility, and more engaging coverage across digital platforms.
The new promoter organisation will be led by Éric Boullier, who has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Boullier brings extensive experience in international motorsport management and will oversee the next phase of commercial growth for both championships.
Preparing for WRC27 Regulations
The agreement comes as the World Rally Championship prepares for the introduction of its WRC27 technical regulations, scheduled to take effect in 2027.
The new regulations are designed to improve safety, increase competitiveness, and reduce costs for manufacturers and teams competing at the highest level of the sport.
The FIA said the commercial partnership and regulatory changes together provide a strong foundation for the future development of rallying.
Leadership Comments
H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, described the agreement as the "deal of the century" for rallying, saying it represents an unprecedented level of investment that will benefit fans, competitors, event organisers and FIA Member Clubs worldwide.
He said the partnership reflects growing confidence in rallying's future and ensures the championships have a long-term commercial partner aligned with the FIA's vision for sustainable growth.
Malcolm Wilson OBE, FIA Deputy President for Sport, said the agreement represents the largest investment he has witnessed during more than four decades in rallying.
He added that the partnership, together with the upcoming WRC27 regulations and the establishment of the FIA Growth Fund, provides an opportunity to strengthen the championships, attract new audiences, and deliver long-term benefits for the global rallying community.
The agreement represents one of the most significant commercial developments in the history of international rallying and is expected to shape the future growth of both the World Rally Championship and the European Rally Championship in the years ahead.
