Expo 2020 Dubai Launches Business Engagement Programme
Expo 2020 Dubai officially launched its business engagement programme to more than 250 senior regional and global corporate leaders at an event held on the future Expo 2020 Dubai site. At the event, the plans for the upcoming World Expo, the first to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region, were laid out along with opportunities for business collaboration.
Titled ‘Expanding Possibilities’, the event was hosted by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee Chairman, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, as well as other members of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee.
Addressing the more than 250 attendees, Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State, Board Representative of the Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee and Director General, Bureau Dubai Expo 2020, said the support of the international business community would be a decisive pillar in the success of the event and, critically, its enduring legacy.
“The speed with which we can collaborate, innovate, invent and introduce new thinking and new products is helping us meet the pace at which global challenges are heading toward us. If we are to meet and master those challenges then we need to appreciate and understand the relationship between our thirst to explore opportunities, our need for swifter and ever more efficient mobility and the global imperative of acting in a way that is sustainable and does not bankrupt tomorrow,” said Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy.
“We will be connecting minds and ideas from all over the world to foster new projects and do far more than simply debate the future, by actually creating the future before the event.
“I am talking about legacies that will foster profound scientific attainments, increase our body of working knowledge, deliver substantial innovation, and continue to boost the region fiscally and through the expansion of the knowledge economy.”
Pointing to one of the over-riding needs of the region, Her Excellency continued: “I am talking about lifting up, promoting, engaging and encouraging our youth, and ensuring that our country remains where you want to locate and keep your global businesses.
“Let us teach and educate to build a true knowledge-based economy. Let Expo be your test-bed for new technologies. Let Expo be your research and development laboratory. Let Expo be your showcase to the world,” added Her Excellency.
Expo 2020 Dubai also used the event to launch its business procurement portal and to introduce its commercial sponsorship programme.
The Expo 2020 Dubai Procurement Portal has been designed as a primary tool to keep businesses up to date with opportunities and ways to participate in Expo 2020 Dubai.
An inclusive, transparent procurement system has been developed where Expo-related business opportunities will be communicated and available for any business – large or small – international, regional or domestic – to review opportunities and submit tenders.
In addition to publishing and going to market with procurement opportunities, Expo 2020’s commercial sponsorship programme is earmarked as a driving force to strengthen the Expo as well as maximise awareness, interest and attendance. The sponsorship programme is based on best practices, the needs and aspirations of this project, and the unique specifics of the market.
In winning the right to host the Expo 2020 Dubai, the UAE set upon a journey that will culminate in welcoming an unprecedented 25 million visits over the six month hosting of the event, which runs October 2020 to April 2021. In this way, Expo 2020 Dubai will place the country at the centre of the international stage on the eve of its Golden Jubilee.
Not only will this be the first time that a World Expo is hosted in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, it will also be the first Expo in which the majority of visitors stem from beyond the nation’s borders, heralding the most inclusive and international event in World Expo history.
At the heart of Expo 2020 Dubai lies the belief in the power of partnership and collaboration in pioneering new paths of development and innovation. This is reflected throughout the event, from its theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, to the strategic public and private sector partnerships that will be built during the planning and delivery of the event, the world-class site design, and the tangible solutions that Expo 2020 Dubai will deliver around its sub-themes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
After Expo 2020, the site is already being designed for a range of legacy uses including educational establishments, research and development laboratories, business communities and a host of cultural platforms.
