Ericsson and e& UAE Partner to Unlock 5G Capabilities for Application Developers
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and e& UAE have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing 5G network access for application developers, enterprises, and Hyperscale players. Leveraging Ericsson’s Network Exposure Function and e& UAE’s CAMARA API-based service exposure layer, the partnership will allow third-party developers to innovate and build robust services on the 5G Standalone (SA) network.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in e& UAE’s journey towards programmable 5G networks and Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) offerings. With a focus on features like Quality on Demand, the collaboration will empower developers to create applications that deliver superior user experiences and enable new revenue streams.
Khaled Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President of Core Networks and Platforms at e& UAE, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in fostering innovation. “Through this partnership with Ericsson, we are unlocking the potential of our 5G network for developers, paving the way for new opportunities in the UAE’s digital economy,” he said.
Ekow Nelson, Vice President and Head of Global Customer Unit for e& at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, highlighted the benefits of exposing network capabilities through APIs. "Network APIs enable developers to easily embed communication capabilities into their solutions, enhancing user experiences. According to a recent Ericsson ConsumerLab survey, 23 percent of UAE smartphone users are willing to pay premiums for enhanced connectivity, indicating significant potential for revenue growth."
This collaboration will be instrumental in supporting a wide range of use cases, including media and entertainment, cloud gaming, computer vision, and remote machine control. By integrating CAMARA’s standardized APIs, the network will offer improved stability, latency, and throughput, optimizing real-time application performance.
The partnership continues the long-standing relationship between Ericsson and e& UAE, underscoring their commitment to driving digital innovation and advancing 5G capabilities in the region.
