Empower's Business Bay 05 District Cooling Plant Achieves LEED Gold Certification
Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world's largest provider of district cooling services, has been awarded a prestigious Gold rating by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for its Business Bay 05 district cooling plant. This accolade marks the sixth time Empower has achieved a LEED Gold certification for its cutting-edge district cooling facilities, following previous recognitions for Business Bay 02 & 03, Za’abeel, Al Barsha Heights, and JVC.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification underscores Empower's adherence to stringent environmental standards, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and innovation. By receiving this certification, Empower continues to enhance its portfolio with green building accolades, highlighting its role in environmental protection and carbon footprint reduction.
His Excellency Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, expressed his pride in the achievement, stating, "Empower strives to be a leader in environmentally friendly cooling. We go beyond building district cooling plants to achieve the highest green building standards, by establishing a sustainable model to save energy without harming the environment and its resources, taking into account the architectural design of Dubai's evolving urban environment."
Bin Shafar emphasized Empower's collaboration with various government entities to align with Dubai's carbon reduction strategy. "Empower has a long history of notable operational achievements in accelerating the transformation of its large portfolio of plant assets to keep pace with the government's strategy," he added.
The Business Bay 05 district cooling plant is equipped with smart and innovative technologies, including Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) technology. TES significantly reduces electrical energy consumption, while TSE technology minimizes freshwater use, preserving natural resources for future generations. These advancements have garnered global appreciation for Empower, demonstrating the company's leadership in sustainable cooling solutions.
