Originally a tiny angling settlement, Dubai was taken over in the 18th century by a branch of the Bani Yas people led by the Maktoum household who still rule the emirate today. Back then the common modes of acquiring nutrition were herding sheep and goats, cultivating dates, angling and pearling. Nonetheless, the liberal attitude of the rulers made the emirate appealing to investors from India and Iran. In 1971, collaborating with Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and (in 1972) Ras Al Khaimah created the federation of the United Arab Emirates.

Exploration of oil in the 1960's laid the structure for today's modern society. Dubai has a sub-tropical arid climate with occasional rainfall. Temperature level range between 10 degrees C and 48 degrees C. The main language is Arabic. In issues of business, English and Arabic are both made use of.

Deira is on the northern side and Bur Dubai is in the south, attached by a tunnel and 2 bridges. Each has its share of business facilities, shopping malls, hotels, domestic and industrial complexes, healthcare facilities and colleges.

A few of the vacationer places worth mentioning are designed public gardens on the Bur side of Dubai; a bird sanctuary near a shallow lagoon at the inland end of the Creek which draws in moving coast birds; the Wild Wadi theme park including 23 water flights and a fake electrical storm; Ski Dubai, an indoor ski hotel; desert safaris; Sundower dune dinner (supper theater); the Gold Souk, the famous purchasing location; Sheikh Saeed home (former house of the ruling family); and the gallery situated at Al Fahidi ft.
