Dubai South and Evocargo Achieve Milestone in UAE Autonomous Vehicle Trials

Dubai South, the largest single-urban master development focusing on aviation, logistics, and real estate, has announced the successful completion of the first stage of the UAE’s autonomous vehicle trials in partnership with Evocargo. Conducted on a set route within the Dubai South Logistics District, these trials mark a significant step forward in the region’s autonomous vehicle sector.

The trials involved extensive testing of Evocargo's unmanned electric truck, the Evocargo N1, focusing on hardware, software, and reliability validation. The vehicle's autonomous navigation capabilities were tested, particularly its safety in mixed traffic scenarios, including interactions with automobiles, trucks, and pedestrians. The trials assessed the N1's object detection, accident prevention, collision avoidance, and emergency stop functions.

The Evocargo N1’s autopilot system was put through various maneuvers such as parking, reverse parking, turning, and reverse turning. The functionality of the control center, including route management, remote monitoring, and control, was also evaluated. Notably, no failures or hazardous incidents were reported during the tests.

In the second stage, the Evocargo N1 platform performed freight transportation tasks on a standard route within a closed area, demonstrating its ability to respond to mixed traffic conditions. The trials met high validation standards, confirming the platform’s reliability and safety.

Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District at Dubai South, stated, “We are proud of this groundbreaking milestone, which aligns with our vision of establishing Dubai as a global logistics powerhouse. Our collaboration with Evocargo reinforces the UAE’s position in the industry and sets a progressive stage for significant advancements within the regional logistics sector. Autonomous vehicles will play a pivotal role in revolutionizing the industry, enhancing efficiency, and reducing the overall carbon footprint.”

Ahmed Al-Ansi, CEO of Evocargo Autonomous Logistic Services, commented, “Our autonomous vehicle trials in the UAE showcase Evocargo’s commitment to providing efficient logistics services. These trials aim to attract new customers and investments in the GCC countries, positioning the region as a leader in innovative tech. We are proud to be pioneers in commercial autonomous cargo transportation services.”

The collaboration between Dubai South and Evocargo began with a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2022, supporting the UAE’s commitment to sustainability. This initiative is part of Dubai’s strategy to transform 25% of total transportation to autonomous by 2030, expected to generate AED 22 billion in annual economic revenues.

Dubai South, launched in 2006 as a Dubai Government project, covers 145 square kilometers and serves as a global commercial and residential hub. Evocargo, with over 60 protected inventions and technologies, focuses on electric autonomous transportation platforms, reducing logistics costs by up to 37% compared to conventional vehicles.
