Dubai Culture and Dubai Municipality Join Forces to Transform Public Spaces into Artistic Landmarks
The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and Dubai Municipality have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enrich Dubai’s visual identity by integrating artistic installations into public spaces and residential neighborhoods. This initiative aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which focuses on sustainable urban development and enhancing the quality of life in the emirate.
A Vision for a More Artistic and Creative Dubai
The agreement reflects Dubai Culture’s commitment to fostering creativity and reinforcing the emirate’s position as a global cultural hub. The collaboration aims to turn Dubai into an open-air global art gallery, making art accessible to both residents and visitors.
Under the MoU:
- Dubai Culture will determine the number of artworks and installations to be implemented annually, ensuring alignment with the city’s beautification plan.
- Dubai Municipality will identify suitable locations for these artistic displays and coordinate with government and private entities to secure necessary approvals for public art projects.
Leadership Perspectives on the Initiative
Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating:
"Through our Public Art Strategy, we seek to foster a culture of innovation, support Dubai’s creative economy, and empower artists by expanding their presence in the local art scene. These spaces will be enriched with distinctive artworks that reflect the emirate’s unique creative identity."
She also praised Dubai Municipality for its role in supporting the Dubai Public Art Strategy and enhancing Dubai’s appeal through various urban beautification projects.
His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted the significance of integrating art and urban development, saying:
"This agreement marks a key step in our efforts to ensure that Dubai remains a city of creativity, innovation, and cultural expression. By transforming public spaces and residential areas into artistic landmarks, we are reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global model for sustainable and human-centered urban design, in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan."
