Dar Unveils Detailed Design and Sustainability Strategy for New Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar

Aramco, in collaboration with ROSHN, has commenced construction on the Aramco Stadium, a state-of-the-art, 47,000-seat venue in Al Khobar. This new stadium is designed to meet international standards for premier football competitions, including the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and the FIFA World Cup 2034, for which Saudi Arabia is bidding to host. The stadium will also serve as a venue for major entertainment events.

Dar Al-Handasah Consultants (Shair and Partners) — known as Dar — played a pivotal role in bringing this ambitious project to life by delivering the detailed design of the stadium and the surrounding mixed-use masterplan. Inspired by the natural environment, the stadium's design reflects a blend of architectural innovation and cultural relevance.

In addition to the stadium's design, Dar’s sister company, Maffeis Engineering, a leader in structural engineering, provided the detailed design for the unique roof and façade system. This structural marvel will be a key visual element of the stadium, showcasing engineering excellence.

A strong emphasis on sustainability was integral to the project, with Dar developing a comprehensive strategy aimed at achieving LEED and Mostadam certifications. This strategy aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, setting new standards for sustainable stadiums in hot climates. Key features include energy-efficient technologies, water conservation measures, waste reduction practices, and the use of eco-friendly, local, and recycled materials.
