Big Bad Wolf 2024 Opens in Dubai, Championing Affordable Reading for All
Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, inaugurated the sixth edition of the globally renowned Big Bad Wolf Book Sale today at Dubai Studio City. Running until December 9, 2024, the event underscores Dubai Culture’s mission to position the emirate as a global cultural hub and an incubator for creativity.
Her Excellency, joined by Andrew Yap, Co-Founder of Big Bad Wolf Books, and Noor Mohamed, Board Member of Big Bad Wolf Books, explored the vast selection of books available. The exhibition reflects Dubai's rich cultural diversity with a collection tailored to various cultures and nationalities, emphasizing the importance of reading and knowledge accessibility.
"We remain committed to supporting cultural events that enrich Dubai's creative industries and strengthen its cultural fabric," said Hala Badri. She praised the exhibition’s role in cultivating a reading culture and enhancing access to diverse knowledge sources.
Diverse Offerings for Book Enthusiasts and Families
Big Bad Wolf 2024 continues its mission to "Change the World, One Book at a Time," offering an extensive selection of English and Arabic books. The event promotes affordable literature, family-friendly entertainment, and unique culinary experiences, including a variety of food options from brands like Sausage Saloon, Dunkin Donuts, and Pasta and Burger.
Families can also enjoy the Little Socks Children’s Area, featuring a bouncy castle and an arts and crafts zone, open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Other highlights include:
- Scavenger Hunt: December 1, 4, 5, and 6, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, offering participants a chance to win an AED 50 voucher.
- Dress-Up Contest: Held from December 1 to 6, encouraging attendees to showcase their creativity with exciting prizes up to AED 500.
Arabic Literature Takes Center Stage
This year, Big Bad Wolf proudly presents its largest-ever collection of Arabic titles, in partnership with the Sharjah Book Authority and Menassah. With over 50,000 Arabic titles, the initiative celebrates regional talent and cultural diversity, making meaningful literature accessible to a broader audience.
“Our collaboration with Arab publishers like Kalimat reflects our commitment to showcasing regional talent while promoting affordable, high-quality literature globally,” said Mohamed Noor Hersi, Board Member of Big Bad Wolf Sharjah.
The exhibition also features titles aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including books on health, gender equality, and climate action.
