The launch of the World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, is confirmed by H.E. Eng. AwaidhaMurshed Al Marar, Chairman of the Department of Energy - Abu Dhabi (DoE). The launch served as a qualitative addition to the status of Abu Dhabi and the UAE in the global energy sector.

After taking part in the first panel New Visions of Energy: Succeeding in a Context of Disruption Mr Al Marar said: "We are currently hosting top leaders, policymakers, and power specialists from all over the globe to work with them to find new ways and opportunities to tackle the power safety, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability and to explore avenues to address these three issues using innovative technologies to achieve prosperity and well-being across communities around the world.

"This meeting provided a chance to highlight the role of DoE to enable the UAE and Abu Dhabi to make the power industry an effective, viable and thriving sector for future generations, drawing on the requirements of the Paris Climate Change Agreement (2015) and the 7th of the UN Sustainable Development Goals." We also introduced large-scale clean power projects in Abu Dhabi, such as Noor Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafra Solar Power Plant and Barakah Nuclar Energy Plant, as well as the creation and support of a Masdar Clean Energy company, a major renewable power technology company in the world.

Abu Dhabi's commitment to the creation of a fresh energy sustainability paradigm in accordance with the 2050 energy policy and domestic development goals was highlighted by His Excellency He also outlined the importance of resilient energy restructuring in Abu Dhabi and the important role played by the Abu Dhabi Department for the Emirates energy transition initiatives.

H.E. AlMarar stated: "Our wise management has introduced important structural reforms across many industries, including the energy industry, to promote financial diversification targets and to promote long-term national strategies for a sustainable future. The separation of regulatory and operational aspects was a main element of power reorganizationin Feb 2018; the Department of Energy was established as the Energy Sector regulator and policy maker in all its forms in Abu Dhabi.

"We've developed the integrated energy model in the whole energy sector of Abu Dhabi as we look to the future. We've captured the up-to-date energy data from more than 10 sector partners and leveraged data to understand Abu Dhabi's current situation and project the emirate power industry in the next 10-30 years.", "said Al Marar.
