Why can UAE learners fail their driving test even after scoring 75%?
From January 1, 2027, learner drivers in the UAE must score at least 75% in both theory and practical driving tests, but achieving the minimum score will not guarantee a pass. Under Article 68, dangerous mistakes such as losing control of the vehicle, hitting a kerb or barrier, ignoring traffic signs or signals, or making hazardous gear changes can result in automatic failure. A candidate may also fail if the examiner must intervene verbally or physically to prevent a dangerous situation. Under Article 69, applicants who fail the practical test will receive another test date from the relevant licensing authority. The regulations do not prescribe a fixed waiting period, mandatory extra lessons or a uniform retest fee. The new rules will apply even to learners who started lessons or booked tests before the implementation date.
