The UAE’s fresh date season is now underway, with prices starting from Dh15 per kg at Sharjah’s Al Jubail Dates Festival, where around 20 varieties are available for a limited two-to-three-month harvest season. Popular locally grown options include Naghal (Dh15/kg), Barhi (Dh20/kg), Khalas (Dh20/kg), Khanizi (Dh25/kg), Sagai (Dh25–30/kg) and Puchipal (Dh25/kg). Premium imported varieties include Oman Barhi (Dh25/kg), Oman Khunaizi (Dh25/kg), Saudi Medjool (Dh30/kg) and Saudi Ajwa (Dh35/kg), while traders say fresh Sukkari is expected to arrive in the coming weeks. The 11th Souq Al Jubail Dates Festival will run until September 15, showcasing fresh dates, date-based products and traditional cultivation while supporting local farmers. Which variety is your favourite—Khalas, Barhi, Ajwa, Medjool, or another type of fresh date?
