What is the new driving-hour limit under the UAE traffic rules taking effect on January 1, 2027?
Motorists will not be allowed to drive for more than nine hours within any 24-hour period. The rule applies to all drivers, not just professional or truck drivers. However, the nine-hour limit does not mean motorists can continue driving when they feel exhausted or drowsy. Drivers must stop if fatigue affects their ability to drive safely. The UAE recorded 20 accidents linked to fatigue and drowsiness in 2025. Road-safety advice includes getting seven to eight hours of sleep before a journey and taking 15-minute breaks at least every two hours.
