Laylat al-Qadr, often called the Night of Power or Night of Decree, is regarded as the holiest night in Islam because it marks the moment when the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through the angel Jibreel. The night falls during the last ten nights of Ramadan, usually on one of the odd-numbered nights, with many believers observing it on the 27th night, although its exact date is not known. Islamic teachings describe it as a night “better than a thousand months”, meaning prayers, charity and acts of worship performed then carry immense spiritual reward. During this time, Muslims intensify their devotion through night prayers, Qur’an recitation, supplication, charity and sometimes i'tikaf — a period of seclusion in the mosque for reflection and worship.
