What five mistakes should UAE residents avoid when selling old gold jewellery before Diwali 2026?
UAE residents planning to sell old gold jewellery before Dhanteras on November 6 and Diwali on November 8 are being advised to check their jewellery’s purity, weight and current market value to avoid losing money. According to Rishi Vaya, co-founder of sellyourgold.ae, the five common mistakes are not knowing the gold’s karat and weight, overestimating the value of gemstones and intricate designs, rushing into a sale, accepting the first offer and confusing retail prices with the buying rate for old gold. Dubai Jewellery Group reported closing prices of Dh502 per gram for 24K, Dh464.75 for 22K, Dh445.75 for 21K and Dh328 for 18K gold. Sellers should compare two or three offers, check live rates and insist on transparent valuations with clearly explained deductions. Jewellery buyers generally pay for gold content, while making charges are not recovered and gemstones are assessed separately.
