Should UAE residents be concerned about the unusual, pungent odours reported across Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman?
UAE authorities have reassured residents that the unusual odours reported across Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman pose no identified cause for concern, while investigations into their source continue. Lieutenant General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, said the situation was under control and remained safe and stable. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) confirmed that field monitoring and response efforts were ongoing to verify the odours’ origin and help them dissipate. Since Monday, residents in areas including Dubai’s Al Nahda, Mamzar and Deira, Sharjah’s Qassimia and Rahmaniyya, and Ajman’s Nuaimia, Corniche and Al Rashidiya have reported a strong smell resembling fuel or gas. Some residents also described nausea and temporarily switched off air-conditioning. Authorities urged the public to avoid speculation and follow official updates, promising guidance if precautionary measures become necessary.
