How does Dubai tackle illegal wastewater dumping, and what penalties can offenders face?
Dubai Municipality uses ground patrols, surprise inspections, the Rasid electronic tracking system and public reports to identify tankers dumping wastewater at unauthorised locations. Under local regulations, wastewater must be discharged only at approved treatment plants and designated facilities. Repeat offenders can face permit suspension or cancellation, temporary or permanent business closure, recovery of environmental and infrastructure damage costs, and referral to Dubai Police for criminal proceedings in serious or persistent cases. The measures aim to protect Dubai’s environment, public health, water resources and infrastructure.
