Could the UAE experience a warmer and wetter winter this year?
Yes. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, expects the UAE to experience above-average temperatures, humidity and rainfall this winter as a strong El Niño influences regional weather. The phenomenon is expected to peak in November and December, with effects continuing until February or March. Temperatures have already remained around 3°C to 5°C above normal, with overnight readings reaching 23°C–24°C in many areas and daytime temperatures exceeding 35°C. However, Al Jarwan cautioned that higher seasonal rainfall does not automatically mean flooding, as the risk depends on how quickly and where the rain falls.
