Can UAE learner drivers score 75% in their driving test and still fail?
Yes. New UAE driving test regulations, set to take effect on January 1, 2027, require applicants to achieve at least 75% in both theory and practical tests, but dangerous mistakes can still lead to automatic failure. These include losing control of the vehicle, hitting a kerb or barrier, ignoring traffic signs or signals, or making dangerous errors when changing gears. Candidates may also fail if the examiner must intervene verbally or physically to prevent a dangerous situation. Those who fail the practical test will receive another test date from the relevant licensing authority, although the rules do not specify a fixed waiting period or whether another test fee will apply. The requirements will also cover learners who started lessons or booked tests before the rules take effect.
