Can popular weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy cause muscle loss along with fat loss?
UAE doctors warn that patients using these medications may lose lean tissue as well as excess fat, particularly if appetite suppression leads to inadequate food and protein intake, dehydration and insufficient exercise. One study of tirzepatide found that around 75 per cent of the weight lost was fat mass and 25 per cent was lean mass, although lean mass loss does not necessarily mean an equivalent loss of skeletal muscle. Specialists recommend monitoring body composition, eating enough protein, staying hydrated and including appropriate physical activity, especially strength-building exercises. They also stress that these prescription medicines are not suitable for everyone and should be used under medical supervision.
