Are school trips costing over Dh15,000 worth it for UAE students, or are they putting too much financial pressure on families?
UAE schools say educational trips, from international tours and ski holidays to local residential camps, help children develop independence, confidence, resilience and teamwork. While regional trips to destinations such as Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain typically cost around Dh2,000 to Dh2,500, overseas experiences can exceed Dh15,000. Some parents believe these trips offer valuable learning beyond the classroom, while others worry about rising school expenses, peer pressure and children feeling excluded when their families cannot afford to participate. Schools say they offer different experiences and price points, with benefits assessed through students’ behaviour, teamwork, leadership and reflections after returning.
