Film Screening: Seven Winters in Tehran
In 2014, a woman named Reyhaneh faced the death sentence in Iran for a crime committed in self-defense. Her story has now been brought to light in the documentary "Seven Winters in Tehran," which is currently being screened at Cinema Akil, Alserkal Avenue in Dubai from June 7 to June 27. Directed by Steffi Niederzoll, the film utilizes personal and secretly recorded videos provided by Reyhaneh’s family, along with their testimonies and her own letters. It traces the fate of women’s rights movements not only within Iran but also beyond its borders. This powerful documentary premiered at New York’s Human Rights Watch Film Festival in 2023, drawing attention to the ongoing struggles faced by women in Iran and the broader implications for women's rights worldwide.
