The growing need for a changed perspective towards the environment

The climate changes experienced around the world have been constantly ringing warning bells to the earths occupants beckoning the reckless use and misuse of its resources. Global warming has become more than a phrase in the textbooks. It is taking real forms with untimely rains, melting glaciers and intense summers. Around the world, great leaders, decision makers and troubleshooters have come together for conferences and summits calling for the need to assure that we are not standing on thin ice. The advancements in science and technology in the 20th and 21st centuries have seen the industries and factories prosper and flourish even more. While at one end these are on a continuous strive to ease our life, on the other end, it is causing threats to our own sustenance on the earth. Many a times, our developments have been resembling the stupid act of cutting the very branch that we are seated on. For years we have been devouring up the resources on the earth, taking all of it for granted, as if we were the last ones to walk through its valleys and sit by its rivers. It is high time that we realized that the earth belongs to all. This all encompasses an unknown number that will go on as long as the earth lasts. The recent Car-Free Day observed in Dubai was an appreciable step towards reminding people of how much we owe to the earth and the big turnout that comes from collective efforts. We have still not lost it all. Through such small steps, we can slowly climb up the stairs to a better world that is not choking from the black poisonous smoke. There is much more we can do towards this cause; both as an individual and a group. Apart from switching to public transport once in a while, one could be more careful about the use of power and water at home or office, reducing the use as much as possible. As for large industries and factories, the switch to cleaner energy sources can help a great deal. Recycling and reusing should become a way of life. There is a growing need for alternate energy sources among large industries and manufacturers these days. Together we could do so much, and impossible will become just a word. Yet, only if we act now.
