The DEWA Set-and-Forget hack that could slash your summer DEWA bill

Dubai’s summer warmth is here in full force, and so are your DEWA bills. You might be heading off on holiday, only to return home to a surprise spike in electricity or water usage. So how can savvy Dubai residents avoid that unwelcome shock? The answer: simply activate ‘Away Mode’ in your DEWA account via the smart app or web portal.
What makes Away Mode a summer must-have? Once activated, it quietly monitors your home’s meters while you're away, detecting any unusual spikes in consumption and keeping you updated, without you having to lift a finger. You can customize the period you’re away and choose to receive daily or weekly usage reports by email, making it easy to stay in control from afar.
But DEWA doesn’t stop there. As part of its broader “Expand Your Smart Choices This Summer” campaign, the utility encourages residents to pair Away Mode with practical precautions: turn off indoor lights, set timers for outdoor and garden lighting, close water valves, and perform maintenance checks, especially before heading out. If you're unsure or spot a recurring leak, DEWA Store (available in the app) makes it simple to hire trusted technicians for repairs .
Away Mode is just one smart tile in DEWA’s Smart Living dashboard. Other features include a Consumption Assessment Tool for personalized efficiency tips, High-Water Usage Alerts for quick leak detection, and the ability to compare your usage with similar homes via the Sustainable Living programme.
In short: skip the unplugging frenzy before you jet off. Let Away Mode do the work, and come back to a pleasantly predictable DEWA bill.
